Our Mission

The mission of the Dennis Council on Aging is to enhance the quality of life for the elders of the town by providing programs and services to fulfill their health, educational, social, recreational, outreach, and transportation needs in a safe, friendly, and comfortable environment.

“It’s a new day with the COA”

The Dennis Center for active Living (DCAL) at the Senior Center was inaugurated under its new name on October 19, 2021.

The Town completed new construction of a 10,000 square foot addition to the original structure. After years (since the formation of the feasibility study committee in 2012) of renditions, estimates and hearings, Dennis residents voted in 2018 to complete the project in two phases, adding the square footage first, and then renovating the original senior center building. Construction began in June of 2020, soon after the public building closures during the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. On October 19, 2021, the Town of Dennis Select Board, Town administrators, staff, residents and visitors celebrated the grand opening of the DCAL.

Who We Are

The Dennis Council on Aging (DCOA) is the Town’s advisory board of residents that helps guide the policies and development of the senior center, its services and programs.

What We Offer

“Always something happening!”
The DCAL offers a variety of health promoting, life enrichment programs that emphasize socialization, healthy nutrition, physical activity, and meaningful engagement.

Who We Serve

The DCAL serves Dennis residents 60 and over, caregivers, individuals with cognitive loss, and grandparents raising grandchildren. The Dennis Fuel Assistance Program serves residents of all ages. We welcome visitors to enjoy the amenities.

The Program to Encourage
Active and Rewarding Lives

PEARLS is a behavioral health, community-based, problem-solving treatment program. After a participant is screened into the program, a PEARLS coach will visit for 6 to 8 sessions with the goal of solving problems that may be keeping the participant isolated. Ultimately, the goal is to help the participant activate back into doing pleasant and health activities with others.

In 2022, the World Health Organization, Age and Dementia Friendly Massachusetts and the AARP recognized the Town’s commitment and awarded the Town of Dennis, the designation of Age and Dementia Friendly Community.

Vets and Friends is a monthly gathering of veterans, friends and families hosted at the DCAL. The group focuses on social connection, forging friendships, sharing a meal and memories.
